Scholarship Day

Compete for full-tuition scholarships

Scholarship Day is an interview and essay competition for new students to compete for institutional and endowed funds. Columbia College awards 10 Presidential Scholarships, each worth full tuition. Winners will be announced in February.

The competition takes place on the Columbia College campus in Columbia, Missouri. Throughout the day, faculty, staff and students will be available to answer any questions you may have about the college and provide information about degree programs, student organizations, residential life and community activities. We welcome and encourage parents to attend Scholarship Day. Sessions are planned to provide both students and parents with important information about Columbia College throughout the event

Who is eligible to participate?

New freshman students are eligible to compete if they have been admitted to Columbia College, plan to attend the Day campus, have a minimum 26 ACT (1230 SAT) and have a minimum 3.6 GPA.

Required application materials

If you are interested in attending Scholarship Day, you must be admitted and submit all application materials at least two weeks prior to the day you compete. This includes:

  • Completed application for admission
  • High school transcript
  • Any college transcripts (includes dual credit)
  • ACT or SAT scores
  • Resume of high school, community, and leadership activities
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement (300-500 word essay that tells your story, elaborating on information in your resume or sharing additional information that isn't in your resume)

Arrival & departure

Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. in Atkins-Holman Student Commons first floor. Upon arrival, you will be given your schedule for the day, an informational packet, and CC T-shirt. Please plan to stay for the duration of the event which is expected to end around 1:30 p.m.

Event schedule

In the morning, students will be greeted by campus officials and student ambassadors during the Welcome Breakfast. Students will then begin the interview and essay competitions while parents learn more about campus resources available to students. Columbia College representatives conduct interviews with each student individually. Essays are completed the day of the event, and essay prompts will be given at the time of competition. No prior research is required, and all essays will be typed in a campus computer lab. Following the competitions, all guests will hear from student leaders who will share information about life on campus, academic programs, and why they chose Columbia College. Admissions staff and student ambassadors will be on-hand to answer questions throughout the event.


Complimentary breakfast, lunch and refreshments in our Dulany Dining Hall will be provided for all guests. Please notify the Admissions Office if you have any dietary needs or restrictions at (573) 875-7352.
